9 weeks Old!

I can't believe he is 9 weeks now. Where in the world did the time go? Although to look at Luke he has changed a lot in 9 weeks. A week ago today he weighed 9lbs 11oz and was 21 3/4 inches tall. His doctors appointment went good. He just cried a little for the shots and as soon as I picked him up he stopped. We did have a mini meltdown about 4 hours after the shots but I just took him for a little ride in the car and he calmed down. While we were at the doctors he said the thrush looked like it was almost gone and I explained to him that everytime it gets like that a few days later it is really bad again. I told him that I was sterilizing everything after every use and he said that is part of our problem. By sterilizing you are killing off the good bacteria so the yeast has no competition. As of yesterday it was getting worse again so I called the doctor and he is having us use a different medication so hopefully this one will work for us. Luke started taking some vitamin drops yesterday. They totally smell like vitamins and I wasn't sure if he would like it so I just mixed it with his bottle and he took it. We also got to start giving him some water. The first time I gave it to him he started sucking away at the bottle then all of a sudden he realized it wasn't milk and he slowed down and was looking around like what the heck is going on here. Now he loves it. We just give him a little bit here and there. The doctor wants him to get used to it before we start him on juice and stuff.

Well my favorite part of the day has become bath time. Luke could be happy, sad, tired, or screaming his head off and once you set him in the water he is instantly happy. I had been telling my mom about how much he likes his baths and so when she came over yesterday we gave him a bath and she didn't think he was going to like it because he was awfully grumpy but sure enough he started smiling and kicking his legs. It really is the best part of our day.

We had our first fever over the last couple of days. Poor Luke did not feel good. He is back to his happy normal self today and at this very moment is taking his first nap in his crib. He had fallen asleep on me and Jason put him in the crib and he woke up but never cried and eventually put himself to sleep. He is not going to sleep there at night for another month or so but I would like for him to take naps during the day in there. We got the video monitor set up and it is so nice to be able to see him while he is in there all by himself.
Next weekend is 4th of July weekend. On the 4th my moms family is heading up to Lake Elsinor to go see the Storm play ( Padres high A team) that should be fun. Then on Sunday Jason and I are going to the actual Padres game to see the Padres beat the Dodgers (he he don't tell Jason I said that!). We are going to leave Luke with my mom. I'm very nervous but I know Luke loves my mom so they will be fine. It will be nice to have some fun away with my husband and Lindsay!
Well here are some new photos of Luke. My mom now calls him a butterball. He is getting so chubby. I guess its good because he did not have any fat on his body when he was born. He was so skinny. Now he looks more like other babies to me.

My very big boy

Things are going good around here. Luke is getting big. In Jasons words " his face and head are huge". He gained 20 ounces in 10 days! I couldn't believe the scale. I weigh him once or twice a week at my breastfeeding group and I could not believe my eyes I thought the scale wasn't right so I did it again and he was weighing in at 9lbs 2oz. We have now grown out of the newborn diapers and newborn clothes. As I was packing up the newborn and preemie clothes I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the preemie onesies. They are so tiny and I can't even remember him being that small. Its incredible when you see them everyday you just don't really notice how big they are getting. Some days his hair is really really red and some days not so much but it is slowly changing starting with the sides and movings its way up.

On June 5th he smiled at me when I was talking to him. It was 5:00 in the morning and I ran into the bedroom and woke up Jason and we tried to get him to smile again and he did! He is all smiles now. He seems to know my mom and smiles at her too. He has the most fun playing on his play mat and watching the mobile on the pack n play. He goes crazy for those two things. The mobile on the pack n play are just three little bears and you have to wind it up every 3 minutes and when it runs out and you start to wind it up again he gets a big smile on his face.

We are not doing good on the breastfeeding right now. I have been pumping and giving him bottles. Because of the thrush he just doesn't want to nurse. Hopefully once everything is all better we will be able to nurse again and get much better than ever before.

We have our 2 month check up on Wednesday. He is going to get 3 shots and some oral thing. I am not looking forward to this because it made my friend April's son Jaylen sick. I know they get sore and cranky but we just got through a rough couple of weeks and I am not looking forward to anymore rough days.
The only other new thing going on for us is that Jason and I are getting baptized tomorrow. I am very excited!

Here are some photos of my sweet baby boy and a video at the very end of Luke playing.

Almost 6 weeks now!

Wow does time fly. Luke will be 6 weeks old on Monday. He is getting so big and changing daily. Just within the last week he has become much more alert and interactive. Its amazing how fast they can change. Within the next 2 weeks they say he will begin to smile at you on purpose! I can't wait. Today he laughed for the first time. It was so cute no real sound came out but it was still so adorable. I just love him so much!

I'm sad

I don't have time to post any pics or write a long story I just wanted to say that my baby boy is 1 month old today. Time is going by so fast. He is getting so big. He finally learned how to breastfeed. Finally no more pumping for me (well ok I still pump a couple of times a day but no where near the 8 times I was!!!). I think Luke is going to his first Padres game tonight hopefully it all goes well.

Luke's Friend is here!!!

So Loralyn had Aurora Lyn (I'm calling her Rory) on May 5th (my original due date!). The three of us went to the hospital that evening to see the precious little baby girl. She was 6lbs 3oz and 18.5 inches. She is too cute. Here are a couple of pictures of the babies together and a few new ones of Luke.

Beautiful Aurora

Their first nap together (ok so Aurora is still awake).

My kid loves to stretch

Adorable!

He's Here!!!

Well all of you probably know by now that Luke is here. Today he is actually 10 days old. But for those of you who don't really know what happened here is our story.
Monday April 2oth at 3:38 am, Sophie woke me up by trying to claw her way out the window. Then Luke was moving around so much inside my tummy I was having a very hard time falling back to sleep. Around 4:40 am, I was kind of angry because I had been up for the last hour trying to fall back to sleep but now our alarm was set to go off at 5am and I was going to start my last week of work before maternity leave. My throat was kind of dry and I started to clear my throat when all of a sudden I thought I peed my pants a little. Totally upset and annoyed that I was one of those pregnant women who could not control her bladder anymore I started to get out of bed to go to the bathroom but as I got up more came out then I ran to the toilet and the whole time its coming out and once I get on the toilet it just gushes. I yell to Jason (who is still sleeping) either I can't stop peeing my pants or my water just broke. He jumps out of bed but he thinks that maybe Sophie got out of the window so he says I'll get her. Then when he realizes what is going on he goes into take charge mode. I told him I wanted to take a shower and he said we needed to call the hospital to make sure it was ok first which they said was fine so I took a shower and we took the next couple of hours finishing (or starting!) packing our bags for the hospital the whole time looking at each other saying oh my gosh I can't believe this is happening today. We weren't ready. We still had 2 weeks to go. So we leave the house. I'm in tears because Sophie is acting very strange. She can feel our vibe and knows that something very big is going on. I had already called my mom and set up for her to pick Sophie up and take her to my grandmas for the day. So out of the house we went, however our first stop was not the hospital, no we are so Lakeside white trash that we stopped at Walmart before the hospital (and yes I was still leaking water all over the place, I put pads in and had to change them twice while at walmart) to get last minute things that I had been meaning to do.

7:15 am check into hospital. They check my cervix and I'm dialated to 1cm and 50% effaced.
They hook me up to the monitor and they say oh you are having a contraction can you feel it? At that point I couldn't even feel them happening. At 8:30 they decide to start me on pitocin. For the next 3 hours the contractions got very very painful and I decided to go ahead and get the epidural. Once I got that we had a very big scare and Luke's heart rate went way down. While they got the doctor on the phone it went back up and all was good again although they made me stay on my left side saying he did better on that side.

Sometime before 4pm my doctor came in and checked me. I was at 7cm and 95% effaced. She said about an hour until show time! Then Luke's heart rate dropped again and she looked really concerned. The nurse told her its because I need to be on my left side or the baby doesn't do well. My doctor said that's ridiculous. It shouldn't be like that so she had me move from my back to my right side and then Luke's heart rate went down into the 60's. The next few minute were so surreal I still don't know what happened. All of a sudden about 5 extra nurses rushed into the room. They threw a bag at Jason without saying a word to him with scrubs. The doctor started telling me that the cord was wrapped around Luke's neck and that we had to get him out now. They had me sign some papers (that I have no clue what they said or how I signed them) and then I was wheeled out to the OR. Now the next part is super unclear to me. All I know is that it was like an episode of ER. All the nurses were talking about me like I wasn't even there talking about what had happened. At this point Jason is not with me.They had him in some small room all by himself waiting. They were doing things to me and put a curtain up and an oxygen mask (which I had to wear after the first little scare and let me tell you for someone who is claustrophobic oxygen masks are not good!). Finally Jason came in and sat by my head. We were both terrified. Things were happening so quickly. I kept panicking that I would feel when they made the incision, not that I would feel pain but just feel them doing it. I kept waiting for it and waiting for it and then all of a sudden someone said they were in and getting ready to pull him out. What?? They had already cut me? Then they told Jason to stand up and just as he did they were pulling Luke out. The cord had been wrapped around his neck 1 and half times. The sad part is that Jason did not get to cut the cord. He really wanted to do that and I will always feel terrible that he did not get to do it. Then as they are working on me Jason goes with the baby and I'm left there alone, totally out of it. I can't swallow, I'm nauseous, and I feel so sleepy that I just want to sleep but am afraid I will never wake up if I fall asleep. The part that bothers me the most about having a c section is that when they brought my son to me for the first time I felt so sick and out of it that I did not even enjoy seeing him.

When they took me to recovery Jason and the baby joined me. I could not move my body at all. Jason talked the nurse into putting Luke on me to nurse so we tried that for awhile. I was in recovery for 3 hours. Our families and friends were waiting to see the baby but Jason and they baby had to stay until I was able to go to my room. By the time I got to the room everyone was holding the baby but I don't really remember that. I don't really remember until later that night when it was just Jason, Luke, and I and how Jason had to take care of Luke all by himself because I couldn't do anything. He is such a great father. He basically took care of Luke the entire 3 days we were in the hospital. He has got the swaddle thing down way better than me.

Today is the 1 week mark since we have brought Luke home. Its such an amazing experience and I am having so much fun, although its been really easy for me since my mom has been here during the day every day this week. Next week it will just be Luke and I so we will see how it is going then. Although he is such a good baby that I don't expect it to be much different.

Here are some pictures of our little man for now:
